Description
A 163 piece set of OLD Whiting 1902 Sterling Silver flatware in the Lily pattern. All pieces have the OLD Whiting marks and date to circa 1902. These are NOT later pieces or reproductions of this pattern and all have the OLD Whiting hallmarks including the 1902 date and the lion with the W in a shield and all are marked “Sterling”. We provide a condition statement for each part of this set - for example, for the 12 dinner knives, then the 12 luncheon knives, etc. Overall and unless otherwise noted, the set is in exceptionally clean and fine condition with little to no wear whatsoever to the pieces and the details of the pattern remain strong and clear on all pieces. (A few of our photographs are slightly out of focus due to my inferior photographic skills - but any appearance of weak pattern or wear is merely appearance; in fact, the pattern is exceptionally clean and clear on all pieces.) In other words, the condition of this set is excellent! The set includes: 12 Dinner knives – thick handle. Length: 9 5/8” (3 appear to measure only 9 3/8” but are definitely part of the original set). Condition: Eleven (11) are excellent. One (1) is only very good (it has one or two very tiny pit marks on the blade). 12 Luncheon knives – thick handle. Length: 8 ¾” (a few appear to measure slightly less at 8 5/8”). Condition: Of the twelve, six are in exceptionally fine condition with no issues (other than extremely minor surface wear to the blades – no pitting, dings, discoloration or dents); three have minor silver plate wear near to the handle (see our close up photographs to view this for yourself); and three have minor pitting to the blades (see our close up photographs). The sterling handles are exceptionally clean and perfect in all twelve. 1 Luncheon or dinner knife – thin handle. Length: 8 7/8”. Condition: Excellent. 10 Dinner forks. Length: 7 5/8”. Condition: Excellent. 13 Salad forks – gold wash. Length: 6 1/8”. Condition: Excellent. 13 Forks. Length: 6 ¾”. Condition: Excellent. 4 Junior or Youth forks. Length: 6”. Condition: Excellent. 10 Ice cream forks – gold wash. Length: 5 ¼”. Condition: Excellent. 6 Butter picks. Length: 6”. Condition: Excellent. 5 Teaspoons – gold wash. Length: 5 7/8”. Length: 6 3/8”. Condition: Excellent. 2 Individual solid fish forks. Length: 7 1/8”. Condition: Excellent. 3 Fruit knives. Length: 6 5/8”. Condition: Excellent. 1 Mustard spoon – gold wash. Length: 4 ¾”. Condition: Excellent. 163 pieces. All pieces are monogrammed. Almost all of the monograms are script / scroll two or three letter monograms beginnin with what appears to be the letter "M". Please view our close-up photograph of this monogram. Comparable pricing at major secondary market sources is $20,000+. Gorham reintroduced this Whiting pattern a few years ago (has since discontinued it again) and a 66 piece set retailed for $11,500+. However, the later production was lighter in weight for many pieces; had no history / patina; and no hand-finishing including the use of extremely expensive gold wash (many of the pieces in this set have gold wash, and all pieces are in excellent or better condition – including the gold wash). Current retail on a set of this size and quality would be in the $30,000 to 40,000 range. Powered by eBay Turbo ListerThe free listing tool.
