Certainly among the finest dessert settings to be found. Made by famous Parisian silversmith Caron, 89 Rue de Turbigo, as prestigious a name in fine silver as Puiforcat; this set is decorated ornately in Empire style, on top, with a resting Napoleonic eagle wearing a wreath of laurels and berries. The eagle is framed in foliate scrolling acanthus leafs, a beribboned cartouche topped with a stately foliate garland. The backs mirror the scrolling foliate motif around a central catouche with the monogram LM in a circle. The top back of the stems boasts a torch with stylistic flames arising out of a foliate base. A simply breathtaking dessert service! Please take note of the detail of the forks that shows the very fine chiseling in between the tines. Very rare to find this intricate work and a mark of the very finest silver manufacture! This set does not disappoint in any way, a magnificent opulent design guaranteed to grace your table with opulence and refined grace! The set includes 12 place settings of 5 pieces: entrement fork, entrement spoon, coffee spoon, and two knives, one solid silver and one with silver handles and steel blades. The stronger steel blades useful for steak and other meats. There are also 5 serving pieces: three serving spoons, one a sugar sifter, sugar tongs and a pate spreader, It comes with a large open wooden box, lined with a brown felt-like material. Condition is superb! The only imperfections, shown clearly in the photographs, are occasional oxidation marks on the steel blades. There is no loss to the gold plate. One knife tip is a little bent. Marks: Every piece is marked with the Minerve 1st titre, the guarantee that the sterling 950/1000 parts silver. Only the British Britannia standard is higher, slightly. American sterling is 925/1000 parts silver. In addition, the Caron mark can be found on every piece. Both marks are shown in the photographs. Dimensions: see pictures for most. The service pieces are: pierced spon 8.75" by 2", sugar sifter 8.5" by 2", serving spoon 8 5/8" by 1 7/8", spreader 8.25" by 1" and the tongs are 4.75" long, 7/8" at the widest.
