This painting is done in oils on canvas laid onto board, and is mounted in a vintage gold frame. The painting measures 12" x 16" and the frame measures 17.5" x 21.5". This piece is signed and dated by the artist on the front, lower right:Cesar Buenaventura - 1966 The painting depicts a coastal village scene in the Philippines, with women walking on a dock towards houses raised above the water. The style and execution of this work is very expressive, using bold abstracted brushstrokes, interlaced colors, and thickly applied paint. The whole painting has a very warm sunny feel to it. Cesar Buenaventura Y Espinosa (1919-1983) was born in the Philippines and was the son of Professor of Fine Arts Teodoro Buenaventura and Agripina Espinosa. He attended San Beda College and worked as illustrator in various commercial firms befor World War II. One of his paintings won first place in a national art contest sponsored by the Far Eastern University in 1950. Cesar Buenaventura Y Espinosa is listed in Artprice.com and has 13 auction records and is also listed in Askart.com, Davenport's and many other references concerning Filipino and Asian artists. Both the painting and the frame are in excellent condition, as shown in the photographs. The painting has no stains, cracking, chips to the paint, or restoration. It does not need a cleaning.
