Lega statuettes, called "Maginga", are rarely taller than 38 cm(15 inches),and were carved out of wood and bone. Employed during initiation ceremonies, they have a mnemonic function insofar as they assisted in the telling of ancestor stories or in the depiction of proverbs. MATERIAL: African buffalo bone. It measures 14.1"( 36,3 cm) in height. It shows wear and tear and a nice patina. This item is located in Burundi and it will be shipped to you directly from there via registered airmail.
