These very mystic Sculptures have been used by the tribal groups and subgroups of Santal or Sattar which are settling in still remote areas in the bordering area of India and Nepal. They have been placed into the local village shrines or temples. The exact ritual background still remains unknown, but it seems to remember ritual dancing performances, which are related to local religious beliefs. This VERY ENIGMATIC SCULPTURE consists of hardwood and shows ten stylized carved female figures with wonderful archaic faces, which stand side by side with moveable arms. The bodies are covered with different coloured cloth fragments, which show traces of worship and ritual pigments. The item shows an overall deep darkened partially crusty to glossy patina due to ritual use and age.  Condition: superb aged condition, absolutely great surface patina, excellent signs of age and use.TOP ITEM !!!!
