Circa 1850. What a thrill it is to be handling this very rare bed.  Never, in nearly forty years of restoring Antique beds, have I seen a 'Sunflower' Bed. It is so rare, I have a big asking price on it, the most I have ever asked!  Bit it is rare, rare, rare. It must have been shipped to Australia from England during the 1850's Gold Rush in Australia. Made by PEYTON & PEYTON Birmingham England.   Please see closeup photograph of this brass plaque on iron cross bar at foot end. I have had iron beds by them before but this bed is much earlier than others I have had. The four posts are tapered which is indicative of an early English bed. The head end is nearly 8 feet high with  eyeletted double hoop and separate eyeletted side wings. The foot end is 49 inches  (125 cm) to top of brass corner knob. Includes 2  steel side rails to support your  padded base or wood slats. Actual distance between head and foot posts is 7 ft. Cream Lace canopy with satin ribbons is 5 piece and  is $500.00 extra. Wooden slats (New) (in one piece) is $400.00 extra. This bed is painted in Gloss Black with Gilded Sunflowers. Bed sits on four castors. I am and  have been a Bed dealer for 36 years and this is the most stunning bed I have ever had!
