Ornaments like this were worn in ceremonies by high ranking tantric lamas, ritual dancers and some shamans. A It consists of the beaded apron seen at the top of the images. Made of many carved decorative plaques and Janus style skull beads. All plaques of excellent design and craftsmanship, three, outstanding. B An extremely rare, hand carved, human bone chest decoration, a torso covering ( an X shape ), criss crossing the chest and back, ( over the shoulders ), with four extraordinary plaques, and two round center pieces. C A fine pair of beaded bone armbands with carved plaques, one plaque outstanding. D A great bead necklace with a lovely figured plaque strung in between two "Janus" skull beads. E An extremely rare, museum quality, hand carved, very large, Mala ( Rosary ), 107 skull beads in total. The Mala measures approximately 88' for the length of the strand, not including the largest end bead, which measures about 1 1/4" in length Although single bones from broken sets come on to the market from time to time - generally reaching prices between $1000 and $2000 each - it is very rare indeed to find a complete set in such good condition. The human ivory is the lovely butterscotch color seen in the images above. This superb costume would be a great addition to the finest collection. AGE / DATE Circa 18th Century.
