Description
Being offered is an interesting Filipino headaxe possibly Bontoc and dating from the turn of the century. The axe measures 17" when measured from top to bottom and the axe head is 10" wide if measured along the top from the spike to the furthest cutting edge. Wood handle shows a lot of patina with the original paint or dye showing some loss from handling. Large ferrule between axehead and shaft. Axehead is sharp and the surface of the axe showing scratching to both sides. Each side with interesting carving. One side has what looks like a centipede. The opposite side has what appears to be a Naga or snake. Similar decorations can be found in sword from the region. Overall, a nice example of a tool/weapon from the Northern Philippines of the late 19th to early 20th century. Please e-mail with any questions. Winning bidder to pay for insured shipping/handling. Please view my other auctions for a great variety of edged weapons.
