Description
ALL OF OUR AUCTIONS ARE PRIVATE DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING FAKE EMAILS SENT TO UNDERBIDDERS. Up for your bidding pleasure is one of several very rare items from Tahiti and the Society Islands we currently have listed. As anyone with any experience knows, early documented tapa from Tahiti is exceedingly rare and seldom appears on the market so please keep that in mind when bidding. as all of our items are listed without any reserve. The label on this historic piece of museum quality tapa cloth reads as follows: "Tapa - Specimen of Cloth made in Taheita, one of the Society Islands in the South Pacific Ocean, made from the breadfruit and paper mulberry trees. The bark is beaten with wooden mallets till it becomes a pulp, when it is dried in the sun. This was brought home in the H.M.S. Dublin." The actual tapa specimens measure 5" x 5 1/2" and 4 1/2" x 4". For you overseas buyers, now is the time to take advantage of the weak US dollar so good luck and be sure to check out our other rare Tahiti listings including two very rare stone idols or Ti'i. Very careful packing, shipping and delivery confirmation by priority airmail US post will be $5.45 in the U.S. or $24.00 foreign ($17.00 Canada). Insurance is additional and required and will be determined after auction closes. All major credit cards accepted by fax with a signature. All sales final. Payment must be received within 7 days of auction ending. Check out my other items!
